When to create an Organization account

An Organization account is useful when: you may need to transfer control of projects in the future; sharing projects with a team of collaborators; more than one Owner needs to be assigned; expenses need to be isolated; different levels of access need to be granted by assigning roles; projects need to be structured for different contexts such as different clients; or an EAS Subscription needs to be shared.

Create Organization from dashboard

To create a new Organization from the Expo dashboard: select your account username in the navigation menu to open the dropdown menu; select Create Organization under Organizations in the dropdown; add a name for the Organization, edit its slug if needed, optionally invite team members; then select the Create button. After creation, you are redirected to the organization's dashboard.

Associate project with Organization in app.json

To associate a new project with an Organization, add the owner key under the expo key to the project's app.json file.

Convert Personal account to Organization

You can convert a Personal account into an Organization from the User settings. Go to the Convert your account into an organization section to start the process. During conversion, all functionality including delivery of updates, push notifications, Android and iOS credentials, integrations using personal access tokens or webhooks, EAS subscription, and production apps will continue to work without interruption.

Invite members to Organization

To invite a new member to an Organization: navigate to Members under Organization settings in the EAS dashboard; click the Invite button to open an invite form; enter the email of the user and select the role they should have. Only members with Owner or Admin roles can invite others. Members with Owner role can grant any role to members and invitees. Members with Admin role can only give roles up to and including Admin (all roles except Owner).

Change member role in Organization

To change a member's role privileges in an Organization, you must have either Owner or Admin role. Navigate to Members under Organization settings in the EAS dashboard, click the three-dotted menu icon next to the member whose role you want to change, and select the new role.

Remove member from Organization

To remove a member from an Organization, you must have either Owner or Admin role. Navigate to Members under Organization settings in the EAS dashboard, click the three-dotted menu icon next to the member you want to remove, and click Remove member.

Rename Organization account

Accounts can be renamed a limited number of times. Only Owners can rename accounts. To rename an account, visit Settings > Organization settings and follow the steps under Rename account.

Transfer projects between accounts

Projects can be transferred a limited number of times. A user must be an Owner or Admin on both the source and destination accounts to transfer projects between them. Visit Project settings > General and follow the steps under Transfer project.

Project transfer using escrow account

If you want to transfer a project but do not have Owner or Admin permissions on the destination account, you can create an escrow account (a new Organization account). Grant the ultimate destination account member the Owner role on the escrow account, transfer the project to the escrow account, and the receiving person or company can then transfer it from the escrow account to their destination account without needing access to the destination account itself.
