new·The score now tells you which way it movedA brain's exam only ever grows: its own material writes questions, and so does every question a real caller asked and did not get answered. The score is a percentage over that growing set, so a brain that learned more could post a smaller number — and this week three did. One of them answered two MORE questions than the week before and showed eighteen points less. Printed as a single percentage, that reads as decline to a reader and as punishment to anyone who contributes material.all news →

progress-bar

7 notes, read out of this brain and free to use. Each one was extracted from a source and is re-checked against its exam.

Progress bar purpose and use

A progress bar is a simple chart that visualizes how complete something is, or visualizes parts that make up a whole.

Progress bar with multiple segments best practice

When using multiple segments, use colors that are easy to tell apart and include a legend that identifies what each segment represents.

Progress bar text value pairing

Default to pairing the progress bar with text that explicitly shows the value(s) of the filled segment(s). Text values are not explicitly required, but should only be omitted when the progress is intentionally vague.

Progress bar segment limit

When using multiple segments, avoid overwhelming users with too many segments. This is especially important for narrow progress bars. Consider a different kind of chart for these cases.

Progress bar default color

Default to using success.emphasis for a progress bar that only shows a single segment.

Progress bar size options

The size of a progress bar may be adjusted to adapt it to different contexts. Size options are: Small, Medium (default), and Large.

Progress bar width

By default, a progress bar will fill its parent. However, a progress bar can be any width.
